5 Questions to Test Your Social Media Marketing Effectiveness Today

Okay, so you've prepared and finally executed your social media strategy. What now? How can you tell if your social media strategy is working?

More and more companies are allocating funds to social media marketing with increasing users every day. According to emarketer, digital ad spend is estimated at $385 billion. This is why companies should make sure that if they invest a significant amount of money in social media marketing, their strategies should produce results.

These five questions will help you see if your current strategy is effective.

Where are you now?

Before planning your 5-year plan for your business, assess your position now before conducting a full social media audit.

Make a note of the following:

  • On what platforms are you active?

  • How often do you post?

  • Who is your audience?

  • How often does your audience engage with you, and how?

Who is your ideal customer?

Now, your ideal customer is not the same as your current audience. Make sure you identify exactly what kind of customer you want to target. Who do you want to buy your product or service?

And have you researched your ideal customer? Market research is needed to get to know your target market and draw up a focused buyer persona.

What is your idea of success?

If you don't know what success looks like, you have no way of knowing if your social media strategy is working.

What are your key performance indicators (KPIs)? Do you want more sales, traffic, email sign-ups, brand awareness, etc.?

Narrow it down to just one and use the SMART system.

S- Specific

M- Measurable

A- Achievement

R- Relevant

T- Time-based

Once you've got that, share it with your team and keep it top of mind.

What does your content look like?

Now that you've got all that down, it's time to focus on your content.

Every piece of content needs to have a purpose. Don't just make content to make it. It needs to make sense and needs to have a message. But also, don't be too obvious about wanting to sell.

A better strategy is to aim to entertain and engage your target audience.

Find a happy medium where you entertain your target audience while keeping your brand messaging ever-present.

How do you measure success? And stick to what has worked so far.

Use those metrics we mentioned earlier to assess your performance on a timely basis - daily, weekly, biweekly, etc. Check and see which posts are performing better and determine the trends your audience enjoys. When you find that out, replicate that for future posts. These small nuances make a huge difference.

One final piece of advice is never to assume anything. So don't be afraid to show some personality and humor in your content and try different things. You might think your audience prefers a particular tone, but how do you know for sure unless you try it.
